How do I onboard someone fast?

Fast doesn't mean cramming everything into day one. It means deciding what has to be true by the end of the first shift and leaving the rest for later.

No app for your staff to install · Works on any phone · No credit card to try

In short: Cover safety-critical items and one station on shift one. Add a station at a time across week one. Give it to them in writing, in the language they read, so they can check it again without asking. Most operators aim for useful by end of shift one and independent within one to two weeks.

Shift one

Where things are, who to ask, the safety points they must know before touching anything, and one station done properly. That's it. Showing everything on day one is the most common mistake and nobody remembers any of it.

Week one

One more station at a time — show it, do it together, then let them do it while you watch. Same order for every new person so it doesn't depend on who's training.

Why writing it down is faster, not slower

It takes an hour once and saves the walkthrough every time. It also means the new person can check something at 9pm without finding a manager.

How it works

  1. Talk it in. Walk through the job out loud, in whatever language you think in.
  2. Get a clear routine. Tiendo structures it into steps, safety notes and checkpoints, then translates it into your team's language — numbers and times kept exact.
  3. Your team reads and confirms. Post a QR code or hand a new hire one link. They read it on their phone and tap "read and understood."

Questions operators ask

How long should onboarding take for an hourly employee?
Most small operators aim for useful by the end of the first shift and independent within one to two weeks, adding one station or task at a time.
What should a new hire learn on day one?
Safety-critical items, the basics of where things are and who to ask, and one job done properly.
Is it better to train everything at once?
No. Showing everything on the first day is the most common onboarding mistake — retention of the material collapses.
